What FileForge Does
FileForge provides a local desktop workflow for optimizing individual media files or entire folders without sending content to an online service. Its image tools cover PNG and JPEG to WebP conversion, adjustable JPEG quality, responsive resizing, and lossless SVG optimization.
Video and audio workflows are included as well. Users can create H.264 or H.265 MP4 files, extract audio as MP3, and convert WAV files to MP3. The application is built with Tauri, React, TypeScript, and Rust, pairing a desktop UI with native processing, visible progress updates, immediate previews, and both dark and light themes.

Getting Started
Install the desktop build
- Visit the latest FileForge build.
- Select the package that matches your desktop platform.
- Install or extract it using the normal process for your operating system.
- Start FileForge, then choose the files or directory to optimize.
Build and run from source
Clone the project and move into its directory:

The application follows a Tauri desktop structure made up of React, TypeScript, and Rust components. Start the local desktop app with the development scripts provided by the repository.
Using FileForge
The basic process is:
- Launch FileForge.
- Add individual images or media files, or select a folder.
- Pick an operation:
- Convert images to WebP
- Optimize SVG files
- Resize images
- Convert video to MP4
- Extract audio or convert WAV to MP3
- Set any relevant quality and output options.
- Watch the processing progress.
- Inspect the generated result in the preview.
- Save or open the optimized output.
When handling batches of images, set the JPEG quality and responsive dimensions before beginning. For video conversion, select either H.264 or H.265 for the MP4 output.
Settings and Options
FileForge's options are managed inside the desktop application. No online account or service is required.
