iOS Device Data Extractor

Autopsy module that creates an encrypted or unencrypted iOS backup of iPhone or iPad and extracts files from them.

General info

iOS Device Data Extractor is an Autopsy module that creates an encrypted or non-encrypted iOS backup of iPhone and iPad, currently running iOS 10.2 and above. It extracts files from an encrypted or unencrypted iOS backup, including a backup made with iTunes, and can compress them into a zip archive for use with the iLEAPP module, for example.

Setup

Installation:

  1. Download file org-gbies-iosdevicedataextractor.nbm from https://github.com/ernestbies/iOSDeviceDataExtractor/blob/master/build.
  2. Run Autopsy.
  3. Go to Tools -> Plugins -> Downloaded -> Add Plugins.
  4. Choose file org-gbies-iosdevicedataextractor.nbm.
  5. Click Install.
  6. Follow the steps, restart Autopsy.

Uninstallation:

  1. Run Autopsy.
  2. Go to Tools -> Plugins -> Installed.
  3. Select iOSDeviceDataExtractor.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Follow the steps, restart Autopsy.

Usage

Backing up your device:

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer.
  2. Run the iOS Device Data Extractor module in Autopsy.
  3. Select whether the backup should be encrypted
  4. Select the directory where you want to back up your device.

Extracting files from iOS backup:

  1. Run the iOS Device Data Extractor module in Autopsy.
  2. Select the directory containing the iOS backup.
  3. For an encrypted backup, enter the password.
  4. Select if you want to unpack the files into a ZIP archive, for example to use the iLEAPP module.
